I also bought this lense in Apr \'10. Love this lense for:
-It is sharper than some of the L lenses and probably is the sharpest kit lense ever introduced by Canon.
-Great outdoor traveling lense with excellent focal length when light is sufficiently provided.
-Build quality is better than expected even though it is not weather proved.
-Bokeh is excellent with buttery background, melted 24\'c butter if you ask.
-IS function is better than 24-70mm L with my own personal experience.
-USM for 15-85mm is probably one of the fastest Canon USM mechanism.
-If light is good and aperture size is set to 4 ~ 5.6, 15-85mm can easily beat 17-55mm with better quality picture and shaper imagery.
After used it for my lovely twin sons indoor for the most of the time, I hate it for:
-small aperture size starts from 3.5-5.6 means I have to rise my ISO to sky high of 1600 to freeze my twins\' action. Note: no flah shall be used to any child who is 6 years or younger.
-Feel very expensive when compared to some L lenses but I soon justify my feeling after seeing 15-85mm actually beats some L lenses. For example: 15-85mm easily defeats my friend\'s 17-40L in the range of 17-40mm at f4.
-No hood is included and the hood costs 1500NT, shame on you canon...... >_<\"
I love this lense and I love my twin sons more. I soon bought Canon 50mm f1.8 and Tamron B005 for indoor photo session. When activities take place outdoor, 15-85mm is the king lense of my photographic world. |
